BRIC Art 3 Exhibition
The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, BRIC Art 3, with artwork by northern Nevada artists at the City’s Business Resource Innovation Center [BRIC]. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Thursday, September 27,
from 5 – 7pm. The BRIC is located at 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially invited. The exhibition will remain at the BRIC through late August 2013.
The art works are spread throughout the BRIC’s first floor lobby, conference rooms, and offices. The exhibition features works mathematical digital images by Ben Hoffman, fiber art by Jill Altmann, photography by Steve Davis, prints by Andy Gallian, ceramics by Mimi Patrick, drawings and watercolors by Stephen Reid, landscape watercolors by Emily Silver, and portraits by Gus Bundy.
Mimi Patrick’s mixed media ceramics begin the story of a mythological people from somewhere near here with relics from the archeological dig that revealed their existence. Ben Hoffman’s large mathematical digital images give viewers a new prospective of sagebrush. Stephen Reid’s abstract black/white drawings also tell a story of imaginative travels and his lively watercolors fill the office they occupy with color and action. Steve Davis’ strong black/white landscape photographs feature images from the Black Rock desert and the Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge near Fallon. Weaver Jill Altmann wove a large robe from rayon raffia and gold metallic yarn. Andy Gallian’s etchings invite close inspection as he takes viewers into the world of flowers, poetry, and the night sky. Emily Silver painted her large landscapes during a residency at Springs Preserve in Las Vegas.
Never previously exhibited, seventeen of Gus Bundy’s [1907 – 1984] oil portraits fill the BRIC’s back conference room with Renoites faces from the 60’s and 70’s. More of Bundy’s portraits may be seen at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in The Reno Portraits exhibition through September 5. Jim McCormick’s essay, “Pose Please”, about The Reno Portraits is available at this website.
