Capital City Arts Initiative CCAI NEWS Flash!
vol. 7 no. 2 - Summer 2009 edition

The CCAI NEWS Flash!

Welcome!

Grad Night, our exhibition of work by the UNR and Sierra Nevada College BFA and MFA Classes of 2009 is now up, and CCAI is busy during the summer months planning for the upcoming 2009-2010 season.

On the electronic front, the CCAI Blog is going strong with over 350 posts since late 2006 and over 10,000 page views a year. We've also recently launched a CCAI Facebook Fan Page, and we invite those of you on the 'Book' to join!

As many of you know, The Flash is now less frequently published. The trend will continue as we increasingly navigate the exciting waters of social media. Moving away from the more traditional monthly published newsletter, we've opted for the timely mailing of "Flash Memory Boosts," generally a few days before openings, talks, and special events. The very next one will remind one and all of our monthly arts coffee, FWAC!, scheduled for July 1, and will also include an exciting announcement regarding CCAI support.

Below are a few reminders of current and upcoming programs – information also included on the CCAI Calendar, as well as our perennial invitation to join CCAI's growing membership.

Do look forward to future editions of the 'classic' Flash, highlighting CCAI's progress. As always, we hope to see you at one of our CCAI programs soon!

All the best,

Sharon | Jon | Jenny | Jeanette | CCAI Board

*** CCAI CAP Mural: Lucky Riding
[permanent and open 24/7!]
In the alley north of 1801 North Carson Street [map]
Erik Burke

From the August 2006 press release: "Local Carson City bicyclist Glenn Lucky is the inspiration for Mr. Burke's mural, not only because the artist is an avid cyclist, but also because of Mr. Lucky’s admirable determination and community engagement. Mr. Lucky has cerebral palsy, but he doesn’t let that stop him. He has ridden about 40 miles a day through heat, cold, rain and snow since he was 15 years old. What initially started as therapy to loosen his muscles has turned into his passion."

Note that earlier this summer, a crew made up of board and staff gave the alley home to the mural a sprucing up. Click here for a team picture.
