“The
Mountain is Out”- Nevada Neighbors Goes Double Digits with
lecture by Seattle Art Museum Curator Lisa Corrin
Nevada Neighbors, Capital City Arts Initiative’s lecture series
on contemporary art practice, celebrates its tenth event with “The
Mountain is Out” a lecture/presentation by distinguished Seattle
Art Museum Curator Lisa Corrin. The presentation will take place at the
Carson City Library on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. An informal
reception at
the library immediately
precedes her talk beginning at 6:15 p.m.
The library is located at
900 North Roop Street. The lecture and
reception are free and the public is cordially invited.
Ms.
Corrin’s talk will spotlight the extraordinarily diverse range
of Northwestern artists and the complex and engaging work
they
produce. "From the expected traditional media
of painting, drawing, sculpture and photography to the more surprising
'new kids on the block' forms of video, installation and Internet-based
art, there is a virtual creative explosion going off in Seattle these
days," comments 'on the scene' Seattle designer Tiffany Larsen.
One of America’s most prominent curators, Ms. Corrin
joined the Seattle Art Museum in 2001 following a four-year stint
at London’s legendary Seperntine Gallery. The list of artists
she has worked with reads like a veritable "Who’s Who" of
the world's most esteemed artists and includes Turner Prize-winner
Chris
Ofili,
political conceptualist Hans Haacke and the irrepressible artist
collaboration Gilbert and George.
In 2003, she organized “From Baja to Vancouver,” a traveling
exhibition highlighting the efforts of the West Coast’s most
cutting-edge artists.
